Dungog is an historic, charming and picturesque town on the Williams River. A quiet town now, it enjoyed two periods of prosperity (1880s and 1920s) which is evident by the elegant buildings of these times. A short walk around town will reveal some gems.

The best view of the town can be had from the Apex Lookout on Hospital Hill, which can be accessed by driving to the western end of Brown Street. From the lookout, opposite the hospital, there is a panoramic view over the  town and the surrounding countryside towards Mt Coorei.
